Liberia Joins Global Fight against Piracy

 

(September 29, 2009) Liberia has joined the global fight against Piracy at a recent summit in Washington D. C. Maritime Commissioner Binyah Kesselly was invited by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) to speak at the workshop on the topic: “Pirates of the Gulf; Port and Maritime Infrastructure and Security”.

Commissioner Kesselly formed part of a panel that focused on issues of port security, illegal fishing and piracy. Summit discussions also addressed the latest trade and investment opportunity in Africa’s most promising sectors including agribusiness, power, financing, health, infrastructure, natural resource industries and tourism.

The CCA U. S. - Africa Business Summit provides unique opportunity for companies seeking to develop and strengthen relationships with senior government and corporate leaders charged with enhancing and increasing business operations on the continent. The CCA comprises 85 percent of the total American private investment in Africa. This year’s Biennial Business Summit of the CCA was held from 29th September to 1st October 2009 under the theme “Realizing the Investment Power of Africa” and served as the first major forum to address U. S. – Africa trade and investment relationship during the Obama administration”.

 

In an interview with journalists at the Bureau recently, Commissioner Kesselly said that Liberia served as the focal point in the 2007 CCA Summit and many businesses have been established in the Liberia as a result.

The Summit, according to Commissioner Kesselly also explores new business opportunities by identifying specific growth areas and projects.
