Maritime Commissioner Conducts Seminar on Project Management and Strategic Thinking.

(March 6, 2010) - Bureau of Maritime Affairs Commissioner Binyah Kesselly over the weekend, conducted a one-day seminar on Project Management and Strategic Thinking for over one hundred University of Liberia students studying Management and Public Administration.

The seminar covered a cross-functional mapping of strategy development at the organizational level and apply developmental level project management skills and aptitudes. It also addressed the implications of strategic management on team dynamics and organizational development as a whole.

According to Commissioner Kesselly, upon completion of the seminar, participants will:

- Acquire basic understanding of strategic thinking and practically comprehend project/process management.

- Develop tactical plans for different kinds of organizational environments.

- Compare and contrast goals and objectives and macro and micro – environments.

Topics discussed during the lecture included:

- The Definition and Importance of Strategic Thinking.

- What is Six Sigma and Impact of Six Sigma

- Tenets of Six Sigma and Strategic Thinking

* Developing the Strategic framework

- Understanding the Customer

- Gathering data/information

* Data Analysis

- Macro-environment and Micro-environment

- Formulating ideas/Brainstorming

- Identifying Goals and Objectives

- Roles and responsibilities

- What is a successful plan of action?

- Real life case studies (current issues)

  

* Implementing the Strategic Framework and evaluating the Impact

- Developing a Tactical Plan

- Roles and Responsibilities

- Is the plan Measurable, Timely, Realistic or Achievable?

- What should be measure and why should you care to measure?

At the end of the seminar, the students commended Commissioner Kesselly for providing an overview of Project Management and Strategic Thinking and also addressing the implications of strategic management on team dynamics and organizational development as a whole. They called on other Liberian Professionals to emulate Commissioner Kesselly.
