Capacity Building
The Bureau of Maritime Affairs also nominated two candidates in 2007, who were awarded sponsorship by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to study at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden and the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) in Malta.
To date, two students sponsored by the Bureau of Maritime Affairs have returned from the Regional Maritime University with Bachelors Degrees in Marine Engineering and are currently employed with the National Port Authority (NPA). Another student, who was sponsored by the IMO received a Masters Degree in Maritime Law and is currently working in the Legal Department at the Bureau of Maritime Affairs. Also expected to graduate in October, 2008 is one student with a Masters Degree in Maritime Education and Training from the WMU.
By June 2009, 12 students will be graduating from the RMU with Bachelors Degrees in various Maritime disciplines.
