Bureau of Maritime Affairs brings Joy and Warmth to citizens of Marshall City.

As children received toys for the holiday season

 

(December 21, 2009) On December 21, 2009, the Bureau of Maritime  Affairs presented gifts to the residents of the city of Marshall where the training institute of the bureau, the Liberia Marine Training Institute (LMTI) is located. The citizens were happy to receive a consignment of rice, vegetable oil and assorted toys.

Making the presentation on behalf of the BMA boss, Commissioner Binyah C. Kesselly, the General Maritime Coordinator, Ms Ellen Ferguson told the citizens that the gesture was in fulfillment of her entity’s social responsibility to the people of Marshall City. Ms Ferguson, accompanied by Ms Liberia, Shu-rina Wiah distributed food items and toys to more than one hundred (100) families with their children. She emphasized the role Marshall City is playing in hosting the LMTI; therefore, it was prudent for the bureau to impact the lives of its citizens.

she also informed the citizens that renovation and refurbishing of the LMTI is nearing completion for the resumption of normal activities in 2010 and that scholarships will be awarded to deserving students with exceptional academic performance as part of the bureau’s educational program.

For her part, Ms Liberia, Shu-rina Wiah said she was happy to be a part of the bureau’s outreach program to the city of Marshall, especially during the season. She said the people of Marshall deserve the gifts and appealed to the BMA to extend its corporate social responsibility program to other communities and institutions in the country.

Also speaking during the program, Mrs. Etta Williams, a prominent citizen and one of the oldest in Marshall City, thanked the BMA family for the gifts and wished God’s blessings upon the management. She said the people of Marshall City have not received such gifts from anyone since the end of the Liberian civil crisis when they were issued food items by the International Community through local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
